On The Road is an ongoing wildlife photography project, as well as an ecology and conservation project, but above all, it is a documentary photography project to raise awareness of a serious problem in a country like Australia, with a fauna that is unique in the world. It is being carried out on the section of the Kennedy Highway that links the towns of Mareeba and Atherton, and the Gilles Highway, which links the towns of Atherton and Yungaburra, a total distance of about 45 kilometers, in the Tableland region, in the far north of the state of Queensland.
According to a study published by the University of Melbourne, it is estimated that 10 million native wild animals: mammals, reptiles, birds and other species are killed every year by road accidents on Australian roads. In a country with just 26 million inhabitants, and some 21 million registered motor vehicles. The vast majority of accidents occur between dusk and dawn, but also at any time of day. Others are injured and die hours or days later off the roads. Some survivors with terrible injuries have to be euthanized, and others with less serious injuries are rescued by one of the groups of wildlife associations around Australia.
